A Simple Nighttime Mindset Routine for a Busy Mind

A good wind-down routine reduces the number of problems you are asking your brain to solve in bed.

30–60 minutes before bed: close open loops

Write tomorrow’s priorities, set out anything you need, and capture worries that would otherwise become mental reminders.

10–15 minutes: quiet input

Reduce stimulating content. Choose reading, gentle stretching, breathing, or another low-intensity activity.

2 minutes: choose one balanced sentence

Examples: “I have a plan for what I can control tomorrow.” “I do not need to solve uncertainty tonight.”

In bed: stop negotiating with every thought

If a new practical task appears, jot it down briefly. If the thought is repetitive rather than actionable, return attention to breathing or another neutral anchor.

Sleep note: Persistent trouble sleeping can have many causes. If sleep problems continue despite routine changes, consider discussing them with a healthcare professional.
